The project is funded by the National Youth Agency until September 2002 and
works with groups of young men from Wythenshawe. We work with young men on a
voluntary basis. The project aims to increase the critical capacity of young
men. That through the work we do they will feel they have more choices in how
they lead their lives and that they do not have to behave in a stereotypical
male way. That may mean not getting involved in conflicts or it may mean they
feel more able to express themselves when they are with their partner. There
are a number of issues that we work around but the four key areas we address
are young men as partners, fathers, friends and citizens.
To date we have done work with groups
around fatherhood and friendship. This involved producing a photo display,
graffiti art, sporting activities, trips and visits and a couple of residentials
as well as discussion based group work. We facilitate the groups to determine
the issues explored and the manner in how this is done.
